2025 King Tides

I made my way to Depoe Bay to catch the final day of January’s King Tides, and it did not disappoint. I captured this incredible shot at Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint. It took many attempts to get this one, and I had to stop a couple of times to escape the pouring rain. The sound of these giant waves crashing onto shore is like a freight train roaring, followed by a thunderous crash. They’re so powerful and mesmerizing—I ended up staying for over an hour.

The crows and seagulls were perched along the fence lines, hoping for tasty treats from passersby. I also found a super cool engraved door at the Depoe Bay City Hall. Did you know Depoe Bay claims to be the world’s smallest harbor? Fun fact: the fishing trip sequence in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was filmed here in 1975.

Depoe Bay is also an excellent spot for whale watching. Before Evelyn was born, I took my parents on a charter tour, and it was such an incredible experience seeing the gray whales up close.
